As of Thursday, March 26, the water level for Thompson Reservoir was 269  acre feet.Last week, the water level measured 271 acre feet. Although Island residents, businesses and visitors have been conservation water, it is a simple fact that as the tourist season on which the Avalon economy depends progresses, the anticipated increase in visitors will likely result in increased demand for a limited supply of water. When the water level decreases to 200 acre feet, stage 3 rationing will begin. Under stage 3, residents and businesses will be required to reduce their water use 50 percent. Avalon is currently under stage 2 rationing, which requires a 25 percent reduction in water used.
