I don’t want to become one of those reporters who traffic exclusively in either bad news or good, since either perspective is a slightly distorted way of looking at life. That said, as you can tell by reading the week’s front page Islander story, “Avalon economy said to be thriving,” we have mighty good news about Avalon’s local economy. The big take away, of course, is that sales tax revenues are up, which means that sales are up. And this good news might become self-perpetuating, because success breeds success. And tourists generally prefer to visit thriving towns over dying towns. So the news that business is good might just prove to be good for business.
