As some of you know by now, Catalina Island enjoyed its second best December—in terms of the number of visitors—since the Chamber of Commerce started keeping records.

Wayne Griffin, president and CEO of the Chamber, credited the weather. I’ve no doubt he’s correct, which leads me to suspect that the January visitor count will also likely be a good one. I’m speculating, but Southern California weather is mighty good this month and I don’t think I’m taking a huge risk in predicting good visitor numbers when the January figures are released next month.

The downside, of course, is that while the absence of rain is attracting visitors to the Island, the bright weather is also denying the Island something it desperately needs: drinking water. Still, the positive visitor count is good news and we can always use more of that.
